Hohoe United have achieved a historic milestone, earning promotion to the Ghana Premier League for the first time in the club’s existence after a 3-1 win over Inter Allies on the penultimate weekend of the 2024/25 Division One League Zone III campaign.
This victory, their fifth in a row capped an impressive streak that lifted the Volta Region-based club to the top of the table with one match remaining.
With 22 wins in 29 games, Hohoe United have showcased a blend of consistency, tactical discipline, and attacking prowess that has set them apart all season.
Their promotion was confirmed after second-placed Port City failed to win against True Democracy, making it mathematically impossible for any side to catch them in the standings.
What makes Hohoe United’s ascent even more remarkable is their short history. Formed in 2023 after a group led by Hohoe MP John-Peter Amewu acquired Liberty Professionals’ Division One slot, the club underwent a full rebrand.
With approval from the Ghana Football Association, they inherited Liberty’s assets and liabilities and officially became Hohoe United.
This promotion is a major breakthrough for the Volta Region, which will now have Premier League representation for the first time in recent memory.
The club’s rise has ignited new hope and pride in the region’s football circles and promises to bring fresh excitement to the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
Hohoe United will conclude their campaign with a final fixture against former top-flight club Great Olympics, already assured of their place in Ghana’s football elite next season.
