The government has announced three days of national mourning to honor the victims of the recent helicopter crash.
The mourning period, set to run from Thursday, August 7, through Saturday, August 9, aims to provide a time for the nation to grieve collectively and reflect on the lives lost.
The official programme will begin on Thursday with a public flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony at the Ceremonial Garden in front of the presidency. The event starts at 1:00 pm, and all members of the public, alongside families and friends of the deceased, are invited to participate.
“This solemn occasion offers a chance for citizens to pay tribute and express their condolences,” the presidency stated.
The flower-laying and candle-lighting will continue into Friday, August 8, allowing further opportunities for national participation.
Spokesperson for the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, encouraged Ghanaians nationwide to observe the mourning period with unity and respect.
“These three days provide an important moment for the country to come together in mourning and reflection following this great loss,” he said.
The period of mourning will end with an “Evening of Reflections and Memorials” on Saturday, August 9, starting at 5:00 pm at the Forecourt of the State House. The event will gather Ghanaians from across the nation to remember the victims, acknowledge their contributions, and support the bereaved families. Official tributes will be delivered during this ceremony.
Further information regarding the State Funeral and other arrangements will be announced by government officials. Meanwhile, citizens are encouraged to join the mourning activities with dignity and compassion as the nation unites in grief.
