The Government of Ghana has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast in honour of the late Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, who tragically lost their lives in a military helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.

The fatal incident occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region as the ministers and six others, including crew members and security personnel, were en route to Obuasi on official duty.

In a statement issued by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, the government expressed its profound grief over the loss of the two senior public officials and the others who perished in the crash.

“The President and the government extend condolences to the families of our comrades who died in service to the country. All flags are to fly at half-mast until further notice,” the statement read.

The Ghana Armed Forces are continuing investigations to determine the cause of the crash and are expected to provide further updates in due course.

The tragic loss has sent shockwaves across the nation, with tributes pouring in for the late officials who died in the line of duty.
