His Royal Majesty, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the Ga Mantse, has thrown his full support behind a new initiative introduced by the Ga Traditional Council aimed at enhancing cleanliness in Accra through a competitive sanitation drive.

This announcement was made during the launch of the Homowo Clean-Up exercise at the Accra Metropolitan Assembly office, highlighting the region’s commitment to improving environmental standards.

The proposed sanitation competition, which comes with attractive awards, will recognize and reward the cleanest areas in the capital.

This initiative will encompass schools, markets, residential areas, offices, workshops, and lorry stations, ensuring comprehensive participation across various sectors.

Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II expressed his optimism that the enticing awards will motivate all city dwellers to engage actively in the competition. “I fully endorse the initiative to introduce a sanitation competition with awards to be given to the cleanest areas in the capital. It is my hope that the attractive awards will incentivize all city dwellers to fully participate in this competition,” he stated.

This endorsement aligns with the broader goals of the Homowo Clean-Up exercise, which aims to foster a sense of community ownership and responsibility towards the environment.

The involvement of diverse groups and associations in the competition is expected to significantly enhance environmental cleanliness and reduce the prevalence of waste-related diseases.

During the event, which saw the presence of esteemed chiefs and queens from the Ga Traditional Council and high-ranking government officials, His Royal Majesty reiterated the need for strict adherence to sanitation bylaws.

He called for the full enforcement of these regulations, ensuring that violators face the appropriate legal consequences.

The sanitation competition is set to transform Accra by encouraging sustainable waste management practices and promoting a culture of cleanliness.

Through collective effort and community engagement, the Ga State and the Greater Accra Region aim to achieve a cleaner, healthier environment for all residents.
