The Member of Parliament-elect for Ablekuma North, Ewurabena Aubynn of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has officially been sworn into office by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Bagbin.

Aubynn’s swearing-in ceremony marks the culmination of a closely contested parliamentary rerun in the Ablekuma North constituency, which followed the annulment of the results from the original December 2024 parliamentary elections.

The rerun became necessary after the Electoral Commission (EC) nullified the December poll results over allegations of electoral irregularities. The EC raised concerns about unauthenticated pink sheets, discrepancies in figures, and procedural breaches during the collation process. The decision to withhold the final results was also prompted by multiple complaints from political stakeholders and observers who questioned the legitimacy of the original vote count.

The rerun, which took place earlier this month across 19 polling stations, saw Aubynn secure a narrow victory with 34,090 votes, edging out the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Akua Afriyie, who garnered 33,881 votes.

Despite the slim margin, Aubynn’s victory marks a significant political achievement for the NDC in the constituency.

Following her swearing-in, Aubynn expressed her gratitude to the people of Ablekuma North for their continued trust in her leadership, vowing to represent the interests of her constituents with integrity and dedication.

The rerun election has been a focal point in the ongoing discussions about Ghana’s electoral processes, with both the EC and the political parties calling for improved transparency and electoral reforms.
