Egyapa Mercer loses Sekondi seat to NDC contender

The Member of Parliament for the Sekondi constituency,  Andrew Kofi Egyapa , has been defeated in a closely contested election by Blay Nyameke Armah of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Egyapa Mercer, representing the New Patriotic Party (NPP), garnered 11,084 votes, representing 42.94% of the total valid votes, while Blay Nyameke Armah secured 14,558 votes, corresponding to 56.40%.

Out of the 25,813 votes cast, 171 ballots were rejected.

This marks a significant shift in the Sekondi parliamentary seat, as Egyapa Mercer had previously dominated in the 2016 elections.

During that election, he won decisively, polling 16,839 votes, or 59.47% of the total valid votes, against Emmanuel Assifuah of the NDC and candidates from the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and Convention People’s Party (CPP).
