The Electoral Commission (EC) has declared the results of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Walewale parliamentary primary rerun null and void due to a disruption that occurred during the sorting process.

An unknown individual destroyed most of the ballot papers, rendering the results indeterminate.

According to Gabriel Manu, the Electoral Commissioner for Walewale, the incident occurred just as the sorting and counting process was about to be completed. The police arrested the suspect, Kamara Bawah, who is currently in custody and assisting with the investigation.

The EC has called on the NPP to decide the next steps, as the damaged ballot papers could not be salvaged to determine a winner. The Ghana Police Service has restored order in Walewale and heightened security measures to maintain law and order in the area.

The incident has raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, and the NPP will need to determine how to proceed with the primary election.
