The Dikan Center has announced the establishment of the Bokoor Fellowship, a new initiative aimed at supporting scholars, musicians, and cultural curators engaged in research and creative work focused on African music and traditions.

The fellowship is designed to foster fresh insights and contribute meaningfully to global conversations around Africa’s rich cultural heritage. It also reinforces Dikan’s growing role as a hub for preserving and promoting African arts and knowledge systems.

A key milestone in this effort is the inclusion of the extensive archive of Professor John Collins — a renowned ethnomusicologist and authority on African music.

His lifetime collection, now housed at Dikan, is considered one of the most comprehensive in West Africa.

Paul Ninson, Director of the Dikan Center, emphasized the significance of Collins’s contribution to the fellowship’s mission:

“Having Professor Collins join us significantly strengthens our capacity to preserve and promote African cultural heritage on a global scale. His expertise and archives are not just invaluable to Ghana but a treasure to the global community.”

The Bokoor Fellowship aims to inspire new generations of cultural thinkers and creators, while positioning African music at the forefront of international academic and artistic discourse.

The archive will serve as a critical resource for research, education, and creative collaboration for years to come.
