The Adenta Circuit Court has ordered the remand of a 30-year-old laundry attendant for allegedly spreading false information capable of creating public fear and panic.

The accused, Ahmed Hassan Abdul Razzaq, is alleged to have shared a video on his TikTok page, @breakingnewsghana, in which he claimed that two military personnel were planning to assassinate former President John Dramani Mahama.

The court deferred taking his plea and directed that Razzaq be kept in police custody until February 9, 2026, when he is expected to reappear.

The case is being prosecuted by Chief Inspector Maxwell Lanyo, with the Ghana Police Service listed as the complainant.

Prosecutors told the court that on January 20, 2026, the accused published the video and mentioned the names of two officers, identified as Sergeant Amoh and Sergeant Joseph, as those allegedly behind the supposed plot.

Razzaq was arrested a day later at Adjiringanor in Accra.

During police investigations, Razzaq admitted to posting the video but indicated that he had no personal relationship with the officers named and had never met them. He explained that he acted after encountering a similar claim on social media.

However, he was unable to provide investigators with any verifiable source of the information, leading to his continued detention and prosecution.
