Court Blocks Democracy Hub’s 3-Day Protest at Jubilee House

An Accra High Court has halted Democracy Hub’s planned 3-day protest, set for September 21-23, 2024.

The court’s injunction follows police concerns about the chosen venue – the Jubilee House frontage. The order, issued on September 18, 2024, prohibits the group from proceeding with the demonstration.

The organizers of the “Fix the Country” movement, Democracy Hub,  announced plans to demonstrate against  the government’s failure to tackle the worsening illegal mining, or “galamsey,” crisis.

The group condemned the environmental devastation caused by illegal mining and its impact on the country’s water bodies.

Naa Densuah, the group’s convener, is calling for the resignation of several top government officials, including the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, accusing them of benefiting from the illicit mining activities. Read more
