Spanish club CD Lugo has confirmed the signing of Ghanaian forward Jerry Afriyie.

The 18-year-old, who is a forward for the Black Satellites, arrives in Spain on loan from Saudi Arabian club Al-Qadsiah. Afriyie made the move to the Saudi Pro League from Thoughts FC but was promptly loaned out to the Spanish second-tier team.

Afriyie, considered one of Ghana’s most promising young talents, has had a remarkable journey from playing at lower division side Thoughts FC to becoming a rising star for his country.

His impressive performances for Ghana’s U20 team at the 2023 WAFU Zone B Tournament in Togo earned him a call-up to the Black Stars for a 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Niger.

Afriyie marked his senior debut with a goal, though Ghana lost 1-2 to Niger.

He also won the Golden Boot at the WAFU Zone B competition, where Ghana finished as runners-up to Nigeria, securing their qualification for the U20 AFCON in Ivory Coast in April.

Afriyie played a key role in Ghana’s U20 team’s victory at the 2024 African Games, hosted by Ghana, where he finished as the tournament’s top scorer.

“Finally, we can say… Jerry has arrived,” the club wrote on X.

Jerry Afriyie’s rapid rise through the ranks of Ghanaian football showcases his immense potential.

His move to CD Lugo represents a significant step in his development, as he continues to build on his successes with the national team.

Football fans will be eager to follow his journey and see how his talent flourishes in Spain.
