Organisers of the 2025 Boardroom Governance Summit have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing ethical leadership and strong governance practices across Ghana, following a high-level courtesy call on the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, at the Jubilee House.

The engagement, which also marked the official commencement of preparations for this year’s Summit, was led by the Summit Convenor, Professor Douglas Boateng—a globally recognised industrialist and governance advocate. The meeting was held under the auspices of the Chief of Staff, who will serve as Guest of Honour at the upcoming Summit scheduled for October.

Professor Boateng was joined by representatives from key institutions including the Institute of Directors Ghana (IoD-Gh), the Ghana Bar Association, the Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE), and the State Interests and Governance Authority (SIGA), among others.

Speaking during the meeting, Mr. Julius Debrah welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of effective governance in both public and private institutions. He noted that Ghana must periodically reassess its governance frameworks to prevent complacency and drive national development.

“As a nation, there are times when we become too accustomed to our usual ways of doing things. This Summit provides a timely opportunity to reflect, strategise, and enhance how we run our institutions,” Mr. Debrah stated. He added that President Mahama is committed to reinvigorating governance systems, particularly in areas where institutional effectiveness has declined.

Professor Boateng emphasised that board governance should not be viewed as a purely corporate matter, but as a national imperative that extends to all public decision-making bodies.

“Boardrooms are not just in corporate towers. Cabinets and ministerial committees are also boardrooms, where decisions shaping the future of our country are made,” he said. “They too must be governed by principles of transparency, accountability, competence, and ethical stewardship.”

He described the courtesy call as a demonstration of shared commitment between government and the Summit’s organisers to institutionalise best practices in governance across all sectors.

The 2025 Summit builds on the success of last year’s maiden edition, which brought together over 700 governance professionals and C-suite executives. This year’s event is expected to attract an even wider audience and foster deeper engagement on the links between boardroom practices, sustainable development, and national progress.

The Summit aims to further entrench ethical leadership and long-term value creation as foundational principles in Ghana’s corporate and public governance structures.
