The National Chairman of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on aspirants in the party’s constituency executive elections to accept the results and work together to strengthen the party.
Addressing delegates at the Ketu North Constituency Delegates Conference at Weta in the Volta Region on Sunday, October 25, he said unity after the elections was more important than individual victories.
“What matters is not who wins, but how that person wins and how we are able to put the party together after the election,” he said.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah explained that he had deliberately avoided attending constituency elections across the country to maintain neutrality and prevent perceptions of favouritism towards particular candidates.
He said his position as National Chairman required him to maintain cordial relationships with all members to enable him to reconcile the various factions after the polls.
“Everybody in the NDC is my friend and family member. If I select some of you and call you my friends, it means the others are my enemies, but I believe all of you are my friends,” he stated.
The NDC chairman also urged unsuccessful candidates not to regard their defeat as a rejection by the party, noting that only one person could occupy a particular position at a time.
He encouraged delegates to elect candidates they considered suitable for the various positions and urged all aspirants to accept the outcome in good faith.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah expressed confidence that the internal elections would strengthen the party, provided members remained committed to working together after the results were declared.
