Ghana endured a disappointing start to the 2025 AFCON qualifiers, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The state of the pitch was notably worse than Ghana’s performance.
The Black Stars lost due to a late goal from Angola’s Milson in the 92nd minute, capitalizing on a poor clearance by defender Abdul Mumin to score from close range.
This defeat ends Ghana’s impressive unbeaten run at the Baba Yara Stadium, where they hadn’t lost a match since their last defeat to South Africa in 2000.
Ghana struggled to create clear scoring opportunities, managing only a few long-range shots, notably from Abdul Fatawu Issahaku.
Before conceding, Ghana had a promising chance when Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo combined on the left.
Semenyo set up Kudus, but his right-footed shot was weak and blocked by an Angolan defender, resulting in a corner kick.
In another Group F match, Sudan defeated Niger 1-0. Ghana will face Niger in Morocco on Monday, September 9.
