The 2025 National Doubles Tournament concluded in spectacular fashion at the Borteyman Sports Complex, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s badminton calendar.
Organized by the Ghana Badminton Federation, the one-day event brought together the nation’s most skilled players, all vying for top honors in three highly competitive categories: mixed doubles, men’s doubles, and women’s doubles.
More than just a tournament, the event served as both a proving ground for elite talent and a critical step in shaping Ghana’s national contingent for major upcoming international competitions.
The tournament’s highlight came in the mixed doubles category, where Adu Mintah Obapomba and Ama Koramah Adu Moslena delivered a commanding performance to clinch the gold medal.
Their coordination and court awareness proved too much for opponents Amofa Andy and Charity Naah, who settled for silver. The bronze was secured by Leslie Nii Adote Addo and Nantuo Prospera, with Quarcoo Daniel and Feng Jiaqi finishing just outside the medal positions.
In the women’s doubles final, Quarcoo Racheal and Hilda Hectornia Napour Yengnone showcased exceptional teamwork and tactical discipline, overcoming the formidable pair of Ama Koramah Adu Moslena and Nantuo Prospera to win gold.
Stephanie Bequine and Eduam Jennifer claimed bronze, while the duo of Rosemond Amasah and Margaret Sarpei placed fourth.
Equally competitive was the men’s doubles category, where Tetteh Ruben and Francis Shang emerged as champions following a tightly contested final against Abdul-Samad Ahmad and Korampong Ebenezer.
Their victory was a testament to endurance and resilience, hallmarks of the high standard of play seen throughout the tournament. The bronze medal went to the team of Amofa Andy and Adu Mintah Obapomba, while Aaron Tamakloe and Ruddock Quarcoo rounded out the top four.
Beyond the medals and accolades, the tournament also served a greater purpose: identifying the athletes who would represent Ghana on the international stage in the months ahead.
At the conclusion of the competition, the Ghana Badminton Federation announced the official Team Ghana squad for a series of key events, many of which serve as qualifiers for prestigious global tournaments.
The upcoming Africa AirBadminton Championships, scheduled for July 3–6, will be a particularly crucial event, as it serves as a qualifier for the AirBadminton World Cup.
Ghana will also participate in several junior-level competitions in August, including the Junior Mixed Team Championships (August 1–3), the Junior Individual Championships (August 4–6), and the Junior AirBadminton Championships (August 6–7), all designed to spotlight emerging talent.
The season will culminate with the JE Wilson Ghana International Series from August 11–17, a major Olympic-qualifying event expected to attract top regional and international players.
As preparations begin in earnest, the selected athletes will undergo rigorous training aimed at refining their skills and enhancing team chemistry.
The Ghana Badminton Federation expressed strong confidence in the squad’s ability to deliver competitive performances, emphasizing the progress seen at the national level as a promising sign for the country’s international ambitions.
In many ways, the 2025 National Doubles Tournament did more than just crown champions; it reenergized the badminton community in Ghana and reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to excellence in the sport.
With fresh momentum and a talented team ready to compete on the world stage, Ghanaian badminton enters a new and exciting chapter—one that promises thrilling matches, hard-fought victories, and the continued rise of a sport gaining national attention.
