An Accra Circuit Court has convicted and sentenced 106 foreign nationals for illegally entering Ghana, reinforcing the country’s firm stance on immigration enforcement.

The convicts, who all pleaded guilty, were handed varying jail terms. Fifty-five of them received 28-day sentences, while the remaining 51 were sentenced to four weeks in prison. Upon completion of their sentences, they will be deported to their home countries.

The case stems from October 7, 2025, when security agencies received intelligence that over 100 foreign nationals were gathered under suspicious circumstances around the Kuntunse Satellite area in Accra. Police later discovered the group residing in a house in the area.

During initial questioning, the suspects reportedly declined to provide their identities, leading to their arrest and transfer to the Criminal Investigations Department for further investigation.

Authorities indicated that the individuals were nationals of neighbouring francophone countries who had entered Ghana between January and October 2025. Investigations revealed that none had reported to immigration authorities, presented valid travel documents, or completed the required entry procedures.

Further checks also showed that the convicts did not possess valid permits to live or work in Ghana.

The ruling and subsequent deportation order highlight the government’s continued efforts to enforce immigration laws and safeguard national security.
