MX24 has premiered a new Television Show called “Fashion Wednesday” with TV Presenter and Producer, Diana Edinam Kumbey.
In the premiere episode, Kumbey sat down with designer David Kusi Boye-Doe to discuss his fashion brand BOYEDOE and its “afro-luxurious” approach.
When asked to define “afro-luxurious”, Boye-Doe explained, “It is basically African luxury. Luxury to me is relative…We have an amazing story in Africa, especially in Ghana. Ghana has rich textiles and a colourful culture. What was the way to amplify this? Afro Luxury came into the picture in building a brand that aims to be on the global stage but does not forget the African element and African history.”
For Boye-Doe, this means blending African luxury with “ethical elegance.” He shared, “Ethical means being conscious. Not just designing, not just creating pieces. You need to create pieces that will last. Pieces that people can revisit. With the things I do, I wanted to create pieces that people can repeatedly wear and not just a one-time piece.”
This focus on longevity and heirloom quality is central to Boye-Doe’s vision of true luxury. As he put it, “To me, that is luxury. Where you can have something precious that you can pass on to the next generation.”
