Accra, Ghana – Ghana International School (GIS) is marking a significant milestone in its history with the staging of an original musical production titled Once Upon a School Bell, as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations.

The musical, written by Vako Ferguson (GISA Class of 2005), brings together students and performers in a collaborative production with Labone Senior High School, showcasing the power of storytelling, music and theatre in celebrating shared experiences and community.
Set to take place at the National Theatre in Accra on Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March 2026 at 6:00 PM, the production promises an engaging and heartfelt performance that explores themes of love, family and enduring friendships.
Unlike traditional fairy tales that dwell on distant pasts, Once Upon a School Bell focuses on the timeless stories people live every day — relationships that shape lives, families that provide strength, and friendships that stand the test of time.
Speaking about the production, organizers say the musical represents the spirit of creativity and collaboration that GIS has fostered for decades.
“This is more than just a stage performance,” organizers noted. “It is a celebration of community, culture, and the stories that connect generations of students.”
The production also reflects the strong partnership between educational institutions and the creative arts, providing a platform for young performers to showcase their talents on one of Ghana’s most prestigious stages.
Tickets for the musical are priced at GHS150 for students and GHS200 for adults, and are available at the National Theatre gates and the GIS Secondary School campus.
The event is supported by Bethel Dental, with additional sponsorship from Sunlodge Hotel, Atlantic Catering, Mr. Antwi-Boakye, The Classic Sculpt, GIS PTA and Vivi’s Dance and Theatre Academy.
Media partners for the event include Joy Multimedia, Channel One TV, Citi FM and MX24 TV.
As the bell rings on this special anniversary celebration, audiences are invited to experience a moving theatrical journey that highlights the values of connection, storytelling and creativity.
Once Upon a School Bell promises to be a memorable highlight of the GIS 70th anniversary celebrations and a testament to the enduring power of the arts in education.
