MTN One TV launches in Ghana with focus on local stories and digital entertainment

Accra, October 8, 2026 — MTN Ghana has launched MTN One TV, a pan-African video streaming platform offering a new distribution route for Ghanaian films, television and other creative content.

The launch brought the business of local storytelling into focus, with MTN outlining opportunities for creators and broadcasters, and government calling for Ghana’s creative talent to deliver greater economic value. MX24’s coverage captured these perspectives alongside a conversation with filmmaker and artistic director Louis Lamis.

The platform brings together local movies, series, live television channels and international programming, giving audiences access to entertainment across devices.

Speaking at the launch, MTN Ghana’s Chief Digital Officer, Ibrahim Misto, presented the service as part of the company’s transition from a telecommunications provider into a digital platform business. MX24’s coverage highlighted his emphasis on connecting Ghanaian creativity with larger audiences, technology and sustainable revenue opportunities.

Misto’s presentation placed creators, broadcasters, advertisers, technology partners and audiences within the same distribution network, with the platform intended to help local content reach new markets.

Government’s message centred on turning creative work into economic opportunity. Yussif Issaka Jajah, Deputy Minister for Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, spoke on behalf of sector minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie.

“Ghana’s creative talent must translate into economic wealth,” Jajah said, as highlighted in MX24’s launch coverage. His remarks drew attention to wider distribution, investment and the commercial value of Ghanaian storytelling.

The Ghana launch follows MTN Group’s announcement of a phased rollout on June 8, 2026, under its Ambition 2030 strategy. MTN says viewing and payment models vary by market and may include free or advertising-supported content, pay-as-you-watch access and subscriptions, with locally supported payment methods such as airtime and Mobile Money.

In September, MTN One TV also announced an initiative inviting African producers to pitch projects through Durban FilmMart and MIP Africa. The initiative offers selected creators pitching opportunities as the company seeks to develop its pipeline of African stories.

For Ghanaian creators and broadcasters, the launch opens another potential route to audiences. The focus now turns to how that access translates into sustained viewership and commercial opportunities for local productions.
