Bawumia calls for NPP unity ahead of 2028 lections

New Patriotic Party (NPP) Flagbearer, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on members of the party to set aside the divisions that characterized the recent internal elections and unite ahead of the 2028 general election.

Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony of the party’s newly elected national executives on October 4, Dr Bawumia said the internal elections had ended and the NPP must now focus on rebuilding its structures and preparing to regain political power.

He urged the various factions that emerged during the elections to dissolve and work together under a single party front.

“Elections are over. All the camps will dissolve, and let us have one NPP camp and go and win 2028,” he said.

Dr Bawumia maintained that unity would be critical to the NPP’s chances of returning to government, urging party members to put their differences behind them and work towards a common objective.

“Let us all understand that winning 2028 is about unity. Unity in this party will give us victory. Let us come together to work,” he said.

He also appealed to candidates who were unsuccessful in the national executive elections not to regard themselves as losers, stressing that the party needed the contribution of all those who contested.

“You did not lose. The NPP won,” Dr Bawumia said.

According to him, all the candidates who took part in the elections would have a role to play in the party’s campaign ahead of the 2028 polls.

Dr Bawumia further urged the newly elected executives to begin work immediately, saying the mandate given to them by delegates was to help position the party to regain power.

“There is no time to waste. Day one, this week, by the grace of God, we should all meet and begin the process of getting to the 2028 election,” he said.

He stressed that achieving the NPP’s 2028 objective would require greater commitment and harder work from the party than in previous elections.

“We must work harder. And let us all start this week by meeting and putting our strategies together to capture power in 2028,” he said.
