Graduates of Lancaster University Ghana have been urged to put the knowledge and skills acquired in school to use by creating solutions and making a meaningful impact in their communities.
The call was made at the 10th Graduation Ceremony of Lancaster University Ghana held at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel, where speakers challenged the graduands to see their certificates as more than an academic achievement, but as a responsibility to society.
Executive Chairman of KGL Group, Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, urged the graduates to move beyond complaining about the country’s challenges and use their knowledge and skills to build businesses and institutions that provide practical solutions. “Do not merely complain about the country’s challenges, build empires that will solve problems in the country and beyond,” he said.
Mr. Dadey also encouraged the graduates to build their reputation, embrace technology and develop African brands, stressing the need to apply global knowledge to local challenges.
He said success should not only be measured by what an individual acquires, but also by the number of lives they are able to impact.
He expressed confidence in the graduands, saying he believes they can rise above doubts and achieve greater things. “I am confident that your generation can build beyond the doubt”, he said.
The Director of International Research at Lancaster University, UK, Professor Kirk Semple also urged the graduands to use what they have learnt to explore ideas, collaborate with others and create meaningful achievements.
He reminded them that their relationship with the university does not end with graduation, encouraging them to remain connected to the institution, continue learning and represent Lancaster wherever they find themselves. He said, “Wherever life takes you, I hope you continue to represent the school.”
Meanwhile, Chris Pilgrim, Executive Director and Chief Strategy Officer, also challenged the graduates to “Dare to be great”, urging them to make good use of the opportunities ahead of them.
The speakers also reminded the graduates that the certificates they receive come with a responsibility to uphold the values, knowledge and integrity associated with their education.
