Arsenal’s Carabao Cup clash with Ipswich Town turned into a night to remember, and much of the attention belonged to a teenager who is quickly making a name for himself, re-introducing Max Dowman.
At just 16 years old, Max Dowman produced a stunning performance as Arsenal defeated Ipswich 4–2 at Portman Road. The youngster opened the scoring in the seventh minute before finding the net again later in the match, putting himself in the history books.
Noni Madueke and Mikel Merino also got on the scoresheet as Arsenal built a commanding advantage. Ipswich refused to give up, with Anis Mehmeti and Chuba Akpom (even though questionable because of a potential offence on Lewis-Skelly) pulling goals back to keep the hosts alive but Arsenal remained in control and secured their place in the next round.
For Dowman, the night was even more special. His two goals put him alongside Wayne Rooney as one of only two 16-year-olds to score twice in a match for a Premier League club, according to reports from Reuters and talkSPORT.
With Arsenal continuing their strong start to the season, Dowman’s emergence adds another exciting storyline to a team already packed with young talent.
