The Member of Parliament for Asante Akyem North, Kwame Ohene Frimpong, is expected to appear before a court in the Netherlands within the next 48 hours following his arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

The lawmaker was arrested on Sunday, May 8, over allegations relating to money laundering and suspected involvement in romance scam-related activities.

Sources close to his legal team have indicated that he is expected to contest the legality of his arrest and continued detention when he is brought before the court.

His arrest has since been officially acknowledged in a statement issued by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, confirming that Parliament had been formally informed of the development. The statement added that the Speaker of Parliament and parliamentary leadership are in contact with Ghana’s diplomatic mission in The Hague to obtain full details of the case.

According to Parliament, discussions are ongoing with the mission to clarify the circumstances surrounding the detention of the Independent MP.

Meanwhile, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor has assured that the MP is safe and in stable condition while in custody, adding that he has not been subjected to any harm.
