Security personnel in Nkwanta in the Oti Region have seized a significant quantity of ammunition in two separate intelligence-driven operations, resulting in the arrest of two individuals.

In a statement issued by the Oti Regional Police Headquarters on May 17, 2026, the first incident involved the interception of a 66-seater MGI bus with registration number AS 248-P at a checkpoint in Nkwanta.

A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 750 live J/G cartridges, which were concealed in a black polythene bag containing three brown boxes, each holding 250 rounds of ammunition.

Police indicated that a 53-year-old suspect, identified as Hudu Mahama and who was acting as the driver’s mate, reportedly claimed ownership of the ammunition during initial questioning.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the interception and any possible links to wider networks involved in the movement of the ammunition.
