The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, John Abdulai Jinapor, has disclosed that nearly 200 transformers have recently been installed nationwide as part of a broader plan to replace about 2,500 ageing units.

Speaking at the Government Accountability Series in Accra on Monday, April 27, the Minister said the initiative is aimed at strengthening voltage stability and improving the reliability of electricity supply.

He explained that the new transformers are of higher capacity, moving away from the widely used 20 KVA units to more efficient systems of 30 KVA and above, in response to increasing energy demand.

According to him, the rollout of these upgraded transformers is being prioritised at major supply points to address persistent voltage challenges in key areas.

Communities such as Adenta, Lashibi, and Teshie-Nungua have already benefited from the installations, with the Minister noting that the improvements in these locations can be verified.

The nationwide upgrade programme is expected to reduce the strain on existing infrastructure and enhance the overall performance of the power distribution system.
