Professor Alidu Seidu Mahama, a senior lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, has emerged as the parliamentary candidate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Tamale Central constituency.

In a highly competitive primary that featured 12 aspirants, Professor Mahama secured a decisive victory with 840 votes out of 1,511 valid ballots cast. He beat former Tamale Mayor Abdul Hanan Gundadoo, who polled 536 votes, with the remaining 135 votes shared among ten other candidates.

Out of 1,551 registered delegates, 1,511 cast their votes, with one ballot rejected.

In his victory speech, Professor Mahama thanked the delegates, party executives, and his fellow aspirants, describing the race as “clean, competitive, and democratic.”

“I am deeply humbled by the trust the delegates have placed in me. This victory is not mine alone—it belongs to every member of this great party who believes in unity, development, and progress for Tamale Central,” he said.

Professor Mahama now prepares to face off against contenders from other political parties in the upcoming 2025 parliamentary elections.
