As Ghana joins the rest of the world to celebrate International Youth Day 2025, the National Youth Authority (NYA) has reaffirmed its commitment to empowering the nation’s young people to take the lead in achieving sustainable development.

This year’s celebration is being held under the global theme: “Local Youth Actions for the SDGs and Beyond.”

In a statement to mark the occasion, Chief Executive Officer of the NYA, Osman A. Ayariga, hailed Ghanaian youth as “the nation’s most valuable resource” and applauded their growing impact in translating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into meaningful, community-driven solutions.

From digital innovators revolutionizing local trade to eco-conscious entrepreneurs tackling waste and youth leaders bridging education inequalities, Mr. Ayariga highlighted how Ghana’s young people are turning bold ideas into tangible change.

“Our youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are the changemakers of today,” the NYA CEO said. “They are transforming the global development agenda into local realities through innovation, resilience, and passion.”

Mr. Ayariga also outlined the Authority’s renewed priorities: expanding funding for youth-led projects, creating more avenues for youth participation in policy spaces, and equipping young Ghanaians with skills for emerging industries.

Although this year’s annual Youth Festival has been postponed in memory of national figures who contributed significantly to youth advancement, the NYA assured the public that new dates and updated programming will be communicated in the coming weeks.

Addressing Ghanaian youth directly, Mr. Ayariga stated, “The SDGs will be achieved through your local actions. Keep leading. Keep inspiring. Ghana rises with you.”

Observed every year on August 12, International Youth Day celebrates the vital contributions of young people to building more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable societies.
