Ghana’s U20 team clinched a deserved 2-0 victory over Niger to finish third in the 2025 WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup, in a match that saw goals, grit, and a brief on-pitch protest.
The University of Ghana Stadium hosted a tense showdown as Ghana looked to bounce back from semi-final heartbreak. The first half was balanced, with both sides sharing the ball and searching for openings. But the home side edged it with better control and urgency.
After the break, Desmond Ofei’s men stepped up. They pressed harder, kept the ball better, and pinned Niger back. The game tilted fully in Ghana’s favour as they grew into the contest.
In the 67th minute, controversy erupted. A Ghana shot struck a Niger defender’s arm, and the referee pointed to the spot. Niger’s players were furious and briefly walked off in protest.
CAF officials quickly intervened. After a few tense minutes, play resumed, and Ghana took full advantage. Aziz Musibau stepped up and buried the penalty in the 70th minute.
Eight minutes later, Musibau struck again. Kelvin Nkrumah raced down the right and floated in a perfect cross. Musibau was there to tap home his second and seal the win.
Ghana closed the game out with composure. The crowd roared with every pass and tackle as the final whistle confirmed third place. For a young team in transition, this result offers hope and direction.
The inaugural WAFU-B U20 Boys Cup has tested Ghana’s depth and resolve. Though they missed the final, the Black Satellites showed character. Musibau’s brace and the team’s second-half dominance were a clear statement.
