The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has disbursed $367 million to the Bank of Ghana following the successful completion of the country’s fourth review under the $3 billion Extended Credit Facility (ECF) programme.

The funds, received on July 9, are expected to support Ghana’s foreign reserves, stabilise the cedi, and meet urgent balance-of-payment needs.

This is the fifth tranche since the programme began in May 2023, aimed at restoring economic stability after a period of high inflation and currency depreciation.

Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson said Ghana has exceeded expectations under the programme, boosting investor and public confidence.

The disbursement comes as Ghana continues debt restructuring talks under the G20 Common Framework.

Economists, including Professor Patrick Asuming, have called for the funds to support agriculture and stalled infrastructure projects, stressing their importance to long-term growth.
