A terrifying incident occurred during the Serie A match between Fiorentina and Inter Milan on Sunday, as Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch in the 16th minute. The match was immediately suspended and later abandoned as medical staff rushed to attend to the 22-year-old.

Bove suddenly fell to the ground, causing a stoppage in play as both sets of players immediately signaled for the medical staff to enter the field. The players formed a protective ring around Bove as he lay on the ground, clearly concerned for his well-being.

Bove was taken away on a stretcher and put into a waiting ambulance after the referee asked both players to leave the pitch. He was transported to Careggi Hospital in Florence, where he was reported to be breathing on his own and had regained consciousness.

This incident is the second time this year that a player has collapsed during a Serie A match. In April, Roma defender Evan Ndicka collapsed during his team’s match at Udinese.

Bove joined Fiorentina on a season-long loan from Roma in August, with a view to make the deal permanent. He scored his first goal for La Viola in October against his parent club. The Italian international has played for his country all the way up to under 21 level, but is yet to be capped for the senior side.

Fiorentina are currently third in Serie A, level on points with Inter. The team will be hoping that Bove makes a speedy recovery and can return to the pitch soon.
