The Black Stars have been dealt another blow after Morocco cancelled their planned international friendly, leaving Ghana with one less test before the next stage of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The match was scheduled for October 4 in Tangier and was expected to give Carlos Queiroz and his players a chance to regroup. However, the fixture will no longer take place, with no official reason given by either federation.
The cancellation comes at a difficult time for Ghana. The Black Stars opened their Group C campaign with a 2-0 defeat to Côte d’Ivoire before suffering an even more painful 4-2 loss to The Gambia.
That result was particularly damaging because Ghana had taken a two-goal lead before allowing The Gambia to turn the game around. Two matches into the campaign, the Black Stars have no points and face a difficult road towards AFCON qualification.
Morocco had planned to use the October window as part of their own preparations. For Ghana, the friendly would have offered Queiroz valuable time to assess his squad and work on problems exposed during the qualifiers.
The Morocco fixture is also the second friendly to disappear from Ghana’s calendar. A proposed meeting with Tanzania was cancelled after the two federations failed to reach a final agreement.
The latest development leaves Ghana searching for another opponent before the November qualifiers. With competitive matches approaching, Queiroz now has less time to build a side capable of recovering from a troubled start.
For the Black Stars, the October window was supposed to provide answers. Instead, it has created another question: who will Ghana face next?
