During today’s parliamentary session, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, the Minister for Education, expressed his strong dissatisfaction with the current state of Ghana’s football, particularly in light of the Black Stars’ upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Chad.
His remarks, delivered with urgency and frustration, pointed to several key issues plaguing the sport in the country.
Hon. Iddrisu began by stressing the critical importance of the match against Chad, stating that Ghana was at a crossroads.
He emphasized that the team must secure a win, with anything less being unacceptable.
He further conveyed that the Black Stars had no excuse for failing to perform, given the significance of the game in determining their World Cup qualification.
In addition to his concerns about the team’s performance, Hon. Iddrisu also addressed the broader issue of Ghana’s football infrastructure, particularly the poor condition of the country’s football pitches.

The Minister highlighted that it was unacceptable to continue making excuses when it came to providing athletes with the proper facilities.

He called for urgent action to improve the infrastructure, insisting that the government must take responsibility for ensuring that facilities were of a standard capable of supporting the Black Stars’ success.
He stressed that Ghana could not expect to compete at the highest level without investing in its sports infrastructure.
The Minister made it clear that the government needed to take immediate action to address these issues, ensuring that the Black Stars had the best possible chance to perform at their peak.
Hon. Iddrisu’s remarks resonated with many members of the House, as the issues he raised are well-known but have yet to be adequately addressed.
