Liverpool have secured the signature of Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt in a move worth up to £79 million, adding more firepower to Arne Slot’s new-look squad.
The 23-year-old forward becomes the fourth major signing of Liverpool’s summer rebuild. He joins Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, and Milos Kerkez at Anfield as the club reshapes its identity under Slot.
Liverpool agreed a £69m deal with Frankfurt, with another £10m in potential add-ons. Ekitike is set to link up with his new teammates in Hong Kong for their pre-season tour of Asia later this week.
The French striker enjoyed a breakout campaign in the Bundesliga last season. He scored 15 goals and added eight assists in 33 appearances. His form also helped Frankfurt reach the quarterfinals of the Europa League, where they lost to eventual champions Tottenham.
Interest in Ekitike had also come from Manchester United and Newcastle. But Liverpool moved quickly to beat their rivals to the France Under-21 international.
Frankfurt’s sporting director Markus Krösche praised the move, saying, “Hugo has earned this move.” He added the transfer proves Frankfurt can be a platform for top talents.
Frankfurt will receive only 80% of the fee. Paris Saint-Germain, Ekitike’s former club, will receive 20% of the total transfer due to a sell-on clause included in his 2024 switch.
Ekitike’s arrival gives Slot another option up front as he begins his first season in charge. His pace, movement, and sharp finishing will bring a new dimension to Liverpool’s attack.
