The Los Angeles Lakers have acquired Luka Dončić from the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Anthony Davis, both teams have confirmed. The blockbuster trade not only pairs Dončić with LeBron James but also sends shockwaves through a league already bracing for an unpredictable playoff race.

For Dončić, a five-time All-Star and one of the game’s most electrifying talents, this marks the first time he will don a jersey other than Dallas’. The 25-year-old was widely expected to sign a five-year, $345 million extension with the Mavericks this summer before this stunning development.

Now, instead of leading Dallas into the future, he will attempt to elevate the Lakers back to championship contention alongside an aging LeBron.

Meanwhile, Davis departs Los Angeles after six seasons, highlighted by a 2020 NBA title. The 31-year-old 10-time All-Star now joins forces with Kyrie Irving in Dallas, forming a formidable duo that could push the Mavericks into the upper echelon of the Western Conference.

The trade, which also involved the Utah Jazz, sees the Lakers acquire Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris, while Dallas receives Max Christie and a 2029 first-round pick. The Jazz, acting as a facilitator, land Jalen Hood-Schifino along with multiple second-round picks.
