Jimmy Butler traded to Warriors in sensational deal

Jimmy Butler’s time in Miami is officially over. After months of uncertainty, the Heat have agreed to trade the six-time All-Star to the Golden State Warriors in a massive multi-team deal, bringing an end to a turbulent chapter for both player and franchise.

In exchange, Miami receives Andrew Wiggins, Kyle Anderson, and a protected first-round pick. The complex deal also sends Dennis Schröder to Utah, with P.J. Tucker returning to the Heat via the Jazz. Detroit picks up Lindy Waters III and Josh Richardson from the Warriors and Heat, respectively.

For Golden State, the move signals a desperate push to revitalize a struggling season. Sitting 11th in the Western Conference, the Warriors are banking on Butler to form a formidable trio with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green. Butler has also agreed to a two-year, $121-million extension, committing to Golden State through 2026-27.

Butler’s exit from Miami was inevitable after the Heat declined to offer him a two-year, $113 million extension. Frustration boiled over, leading to three separate suspensions since January, the latest an indefinite ban. While Butler was a catalyst for Miami’s Finals runs in 2020 and 2023, his relationship with the franchise had soured beyond repair.

Golden State now becomes Butler’s fifth team, following stints in Chicago, Minnesota, Philadelphia, and Miami. On the March 25, when the Warriors visit Miami in what promises to be an emotional reunion.
