Chief of Staff Hon. Julius Debrah has pledged his full support to President John Mahama’s bold sporting vision, to unearth raw talent across Ghana and transform the country into a global powerhouse in sport.
Speaking with conviction and clarity, Hon. Debrah outlined the importance of reaching deep into Ghana’s grassroots. He said the next world-beater could come from a rural pitch, a dusty street, or a forgotten schoolyard. His message was simple: every young Ghanaian deserves a shot at glory.
He revealed plans for a new national scouting and development program under a Presidential Special Initiative. The program will cover all 275 constituencies. It won’t focus on just football but will embrace all major sports.
“We have hidden gems in every corner,” Debrah said, echoing Mahama’s belief in equal opportunity. “Let’s go out and find them. Let’s give them the wings to fly.”
The recent President’s Cup clash between Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak only reinforced his belief. Hon. Debrah praised the energy, pride, and passion on display. He said moments like that unite the nation and ignite the dreams of young athletes.
He congratulated Asante Kotoko for their 2-1 win and applauded both sides for their spirit. He said Ghanaian football showed its best side, fierce rivalry balanced by mutual respect and love for country.
Hon. Debrah urged all sectors, government, private enterprise, media, and civil society to support this sporting revolution. He believes this movement is bigger than medals. It’s about nation-building through unity, discipline, and belief.
“This is more than sport,” he concluded. “It’s about identity. It’s about purpose. And it begins at the grassroots.”
