Rasheed Saminu delivered another statement performance on the global stage, finishing second in the men’s 100m at the prestigious Gyulai Istvan Memorial in Budapest. The Ghanaian sprinter clocked 10.01 seconds, cementing his place among the world’s sprinting elite.

The race was part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Gold series, attracting some of the fastest men in the sport. Jamaican powerhouse Kishane Thompson claimed victory in 9.95 seconds, edging Saminu in a thrilling finish.

South Africa’s Akani Simbine matched Saminu’s 10.01 time but was pushed to third by the slimmest of margins. Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake and American Ronnie Baker followed close behind with 10.04 and 10.05 seconds respectively, showing just how tight the contest was.

For Saminu, this was more than just a silver-medal performance. It was another sign of his steady rise, as he consistently delivers sub-10.1-second runs against the very best. Such consistency is the hallmark of sprinters destined for major championship success.

Saminu’s progress is a bright spot for Ghanaian athletics. The nation has long sought a sprinter capable of challenging the established sprinting powers, and his performances suggest he could soon be a regular fixture in major finals.

With some more global meets ahead, the challenge now is maintaining this form and breaking through the sub-10 barrier. In Budapest, Saminu showed he is not just close but he is ready to take that next step.
