Zambia’s Vice President, Mutale Nalumango, has escaped injury after a Zambia Air Force helicopter carrying her was involved in an incident during takeoff in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province.

Secretary to the Cabinet, Patrick Kangwa, confirmed that the incident occurred on Thursday while the Vice President was on an official visit to the region.

He said Mrs. Nalumango and all passengers and crew members aboard the aircraft were safe, but she was taken to Nakonde Hospital as a precaution for a routine medical examination.

The Vice President was later discharged after being assessed by medical personnel, with officials confirming that she was in good health.

The cause of the incident remains unknown, as authorities have begun investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the occurrence.

President Hakainde Hichilema later confirmed that he had spoken with the Vice President and expressed gratitude for her safety.

The government says Mrs. Nalumango is expected to continue with her scheduled engagements in the region, while commending the flight crew and emergency responders for their swift response.
