President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has announced a visa waiver for citizens of other African countries visiting Ghana.

According to President Akufo-Addo, processes have begun to get the policy implemented this year. He made the revelation when he delivered the keynote address at the opening ceremony of the Africa Prosperity Dialogues 2024, happening at the Peduase Presidential Lodge in Aburi on Thursday, January 25.

Organized by the Africa Prosperity Network, APD 2024 is an annual program dedicated to bringing together Africa’s political and business leaders with the aim of collectively advancing with urgency, the delivery of the all-important goal of boosting intra-Africa trade and building the world’s largest single market.

This announcement by the president becomes the second in less than a year following the earlier announcement of a visa waiver agreement signed between the governments of Ghana and South Africa which began in November 2023 and allows citizens of the two countries to travel and stay up to 90 days without any visa requirements

The new policy when implemented will allow nationals of other African countries to travel to Ghana without any visa requirements. This move is expected to boost the number of people visiting the West African country annually by way of tourism and trade.
