Parliament returns from recess today, Tuesday, November 3, with preparations for the 2027 national budget and the possible reintroduction of the controversial Anti-Gay Bill expected to shape the Third Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Parliament.
A key highlight will be the presentation of the 2027 Budget Statement and Economic Policy by Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson on November 12.
The budget is expected to outline the government’s spending plans, revenue projections, fiscal targets and economic priorities for the coming year, including measures to manage public debt, sustain growth and address the cost of living.
Following the presentation, parliamentary committees will scrutinise allocations to ministries, departments and agencies, with lawmakers expected to question proposed expenditure and make recommendations.
The House will subsequently consider the Appropriation Bill, which will provide the legal authority for government spending from the Consolidated Fund for the 2027 financial year.
Also expected to draw attention is the Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, popularly known as the Anti-Gay Bill.
The proposed legislation remains contentious, with supporters arguing that it will protect Ghanaian cultural and family values, while critics have raised concerns about its human rights and constitutional implications.
Its possible return to the parliamentary agenda could renew debate over the legislation and put lawmakers under fresh public scrutiny.
The meeting is also expected to consider other legislative and national policy matters.
