Mahama engages Christian Ecumenical Councils in dialogue on Ghana’s future

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama has engaged the leadership of the Christian Ecumenical Councils in a significant move towards fostering national unity and charting a course for the future.

The dialogue, held as part of ongoing discussions regarding the forthcoming 2024 elections, aimed to address key issues vital to Ghana’s progress and development.

With the general elections only a few months away, Mr. Mahama underscored the importance of collective deliberation on Ghana’s trajectory. 

Recognizing the profound impact of electoral decisions on the nation and its populace, the meeting served as a platform to galvanize efforts towards fostering a prosperous and inclusive future.

During the session, the former president emphasized the significance of effective leadership, particularly amidst the current socio-economic challenges. 

Drawing from biblical principles, the discussion centred on the transformative influence of righteous leadership in shaping the destiny of nations. 

He urged stakeholders to reflect on the qualities of integrity, justice, and compassion essential for effective governance.

Addressing the role of the Christian community in nation-building, John Mahama called for concerted efforts to advocate for leadership grounded in principles of honesty, fairness, and compassion. 

Highlighting the historic partnership between the church and state in education and healthcare, the dialogue explored avenues for enhancing collaboration to optimize service delivery.

In line with his pledge to improve education accessibility and quality, when given the nod, the NDC flagbearer proposed increased collaboration between religious institutions and the state in school management. Emphasizing the importance of affordable education without compromising standards, he aims to leverage the expertise and resources of religious organizations for enhanced educational outcomes.

Additionally, discussions revolved around the optimization of mission hospitals through innovative partnerships. By fostering collaboration in healthcare provision, the goal is to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services, ensuring better healthcare access for all citizens.

Expressing dedication to sustaining the dialogue, he reiterated the commitment to exploring collaborative solutions for national development. Acknowledging the invaluable contributions of the Christian Ecumenical Councils, Mr Mahama extended gratitude for their active participation in the dialogue towards shaping the future of Ghana.
