The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will now resume its 2025/2026 recruitment exercise in the Greater Accra Region following a temporary suspension triggered by last week’s tragic stampede that resulted in the death of six women and multiple applicants in critical condition.

In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp, GAF stated that screening activities will recommence on Thursday, 20 November 2025, across eight designated sub-centres aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring a smooth process.

New Screening Centres Announced

To enhance safety and streamline the exercise, applicants will now be screened at the following locations:

  1. El-Wak Stadium – 2 centres
  2. Nicholson Park, Burma Camp – 2 centres
  3. Air Force Base, Burma Camp
  4. Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Teshie – 2 centres
  5. Eastern Naval Command, Tema

Qualified applicants will report in controlled batches of 600 persons and will receive text messages specifying their reporting dates, batches, and centres. The Armed Forces advised applicants to strictly adhere to their assigned schedules and to regularly check the recruitment portal for updates.

Applicants who do not receive an SMS by Thursday, 20 November, are encouraged to contact the helplines provided in the press statement for assistance. GAF also cautioned families and friends not to accompany applicants to the centres in order to reduce crowding, emphasizing that non-applicants will not be permitted entry.

New Leadership

Following the stampede that occurred during the earlier phase of the screening exercise, GAF has replaced the leadership of the Greater Accra Recruitment Team to allow for an independent and transparent investigation by the Board of Inquiry.

The following officers have now taken over key roles:
Commodore FA Nyarko – Director General, Human Resource
Colonel F. Kusi-Darko – Director, Manpower
Colonel GB Eduah – Director, Information Technology

The Armed Forces reiterated that any individual found culpable for the incident will face sanctions, emphasising their commitment to accountability and safety.

The statement expressed the Ghana Armed Forces’ regret over the tragic incident, extending condolences to the families affected by the stampede. The government has pledged to cover the cost of treatment for the victims of the stampede.
