Nigeria, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa and DR Congo are the last four teams in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
These sides have put up some spectacular performances in the competition so far, ending them a spot to be part of the last four teams in the competition.
The semifinals clashes promises to be tricky and competitive as well with South Africa taking on three time champions Nigeria and host nation Côte d’Ivoire facing DR Congo.
NIGERIA VS SOUTH AFRICA
The Super Eagles did a great job defeating Angola 1-0 in the quarter-finals whilst their South Africa had an intense match against Cape Verde, drawing 0-0 and then winning 2-1 in a penalty shootout.
The Super Eagles have been really solid in defense, only conceding one goal so far in the tournament.
This shows how disciplined they are as a team. South Africa would need to put up a spectacular performance to break the Nigeria team.
The match will be playged at Stade de la Paix in Bouake at exactly 5:00pm local time on Wednesday, 7th February, 2024.
COTE D’IVOIRE VS DR CONGO
The second semifinal clash sees host Nation Côte d’Ivoire battling it out with DR Congo who haven’t lost a game in the competition.
Côte d’Ivoire had a thrilling journey to the semis, with a last-minute winner against Mali despite playing with ten men.
However, DR Congo showed real character in their solid 3-1 victory over Guinea to secure their spot in the final four.
It’s interesting that all four remaining teams have previously won AFCON, but DR Congo has gone the longest without winning since 1974.
DR Congo will be aiming to reach the finals this time around and possibly clinch the trophy.
Côte d’Ivoire will be without both Oumar Diakite and Odilon Kossounou with DR Congo expected to have a full squad available for selection.
The match will be played at Alassane Ouattara Stadium, Abidjan, 8pm at exactly 5:00pm local time on Wednesday, 7th February, 2024.
