Ghana suffered their first competitive defeat under the management of Chris Hughton, as they were stunned by Comoros at the Moroni Sport Stadium during the 2026 World Cup qualifier held on Tuesday evening.

It was an incredible performance by Comoros as they managed to secure a 1-0 victory over the Black Stars.

Hertha BSC’s Myziane Maolida’s fantastic 43rd minute strike ensured the victory for the home side.

The Black Stars made numerous attempts to get the equalizer but their efforts were not enough as Comoros displayed unwavering resilience throughout the match.

Ghanaians anticipated a victory to retaliate against their opponents for a disappointing performance in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations when the two sides met. In that tournament, the same adversaries shocked them with a 3-2 triumph in the final group stage encounter.

Had the Black Stars emerged victorious, they would have secured the top spot in the group standings. However, their defeat has resulted in them currently occupying fourth place with 4 points after two games, while Comoros leads the standings with 6 points.

Ghana will be heading to Mali on June 3rd, 2024, for their next match in the 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.
