The UK’s Trade Commissioner for Africa, John Humphrey, arrived in Ghana on Monday, September 22, for a three-day official visit aimed at strengthening trade and investment relations between the United Kingdom and Ghana.

The visit comes at a strategically important moment as Ghana intensifies its focus on economic transformation through initiatives such as the BIG PUSH and the 24-Hour Economy Programme.

Humphrey’s visit underscores the UK’s commitment to fostering innovative and sustainable commercial partnerships that align with Ghana’s development priorities. His engagements in the country will include high-level meetings with government officials, private sector leaders, and UK companies exploring investment opportunities across key sectors.

During his stay, the Trade Commissioner is visiting AngloGold Ashanti’s operations in Obuasi, a key stop under the UK-Ghana Mining Trade Mission, as part of efforts to boost collaboration in the mining industry.

He will also meet with participants of the recent UK-Ghana Healthcare Roadshow to follow up on commercial deals initiated during that engagement.

In addition, Humphrey is taking part in the UK-Ghana Trade and Investment Mission organised by Developing Markets Associates (DMA), where UK firms are exploring prospects within Ghana’s emerging 24-Hour Economy framework.

More than 20 UK businesses are participating in the two missions, including companies such as GE HealthCare, Aqua Africa, Gapuma Group, QGMI, Health Consultants International, HED International, Mine Tech Services, and PowerX Equipment.

These companies are focused on sectors including mining, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and technology, and are using the visit as a platform to engage directly with senior stakeholders from both the public and private sectors in Ghana.

Speaking ahead of his visit, Humphrey expressed optimism about deepening ties with Ghana, saying, “I am delighted to be visiting Ghana again at such an important time. The UK is committed to supporting Ghana’s development ambitions, including its 24-hour economy agenda, through strong commercial partnerships. I look forward to deepening our collaboration across key sectors and unlocking new opportunities for UK and Ghanaian businesses.”

British High Commissioner to Ghana, Dr Christian Rogg, welcomed the Trade Commissioner’s visit, highlighting the strong and enduring relationship between the two countries. “This visit reflects the UK’s enduring relationship with Ghana, rooted in shared values and a commitment to mutual prosperity. In response to President Mahama’s call for deeper UK investment, we’re pleased that over 20 UK companies are coming to Ghana as part of the two trade missions, exploring opportunities to grow and partner, and leverage Ghana’s strategic position within the AfCFTA.”

The visit is expected to translate into practical outcomes that benefit both economies, reinforcing Ghana’s position as a leading destination for investment in West Africa while offering UK companies meaningful opportunities in a growing and dynamic market.
