Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has donated GH¢100,000 to assist in the medical treatment of victims injured in the El-Wak Sports Stadium stampede during a Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) recruitment exercise.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, November 12, 2025, claimed six lives and left about 28 others injured after thousands of hopeful applicants crowded the venue for enlistment screening.

Mr. Bagbin, accompanied by the leadership of Parliament, visited the victims at the 37 Military Hospital on Thursday to commiserate with them and their families.

He said the donation was aimed at easing the financial burden on the victims and demonstrating Parliament’s solidarity with those affected by the tragedy.

The Speaker also expressed deep concern over the recurring safety lapses associated with public sector recruitment exercises and called for urgent reforms to ensure such processes are conducted in a safer and more organised manner.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Armed Forces has suspended the recruitment exercise at El-Wak pending investigations into the circumstances that led to the stampede.
