The Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod and National Democratic Congress (NDC) politician, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, has filed a defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger over what he describes as “false, malicious, and deliberately contrived” allegations aimed at damaging his reputation.
The suit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, seeks to counter what Mr. Gyamfi calls a targeted smear campaign.
At the heart of the case are claims allegedly made by Ms. Schwarzenegger suggesting that Mr. Gyamfi has girlfriends at the University of Ghana and has purchased vehicles and property for them.
In a formal response, Mr. Gyamfi firmly denied the allegations, stating, “I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not at any time purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends as claimed by Defendant.”
He also rejected claims that he had bought property in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or a supposed sister-in-law, asserting that his wife does not even have a sister named “Vida,” as the defendant purportedly claimed.
Mr. Gyamfi argued that the statements were either knowingly false or made with “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth.” He accused Ms. Schwarzenegger of seeking to portray him as “morally depraved and without any scruples.”
The fallout, he said, has been significant. According to Mr. Gyamfi, he has received a barrage of calls and inquiries from colleagues, senior officials at the Office of the President, party members, family, and others—both locally and internationally—due to the widespread nature of the claims.
He emphasized that the legal action is not only aimed at restoring his personal and professional image but also at setting a precedent to deter similar defamatory attacks on public figures.
“This is not just about me,” Mr. Gyamfi said. “It is about protecting public discourse from baseless and harmful allegations.”
