The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has called on MultiChoice Ghana to slash DStv subscription prices by 30%, citing the cedi’s recent gains and growing consumer frustration.
Speaking during a July 4 meeting with a MultiChoice delegation led by Dr. Keabetswe Modimoeng, the Minister argued that although the Ghanaian cedi has appreciated by 30% in the last five months, subscription fees remain unchanged.
“Consumers deserve a direct, permanent price reduction—not just temporary promotions,” he said.
George also noted public dissatisfaction with outdated programming, adding that for many subscribers, the English Premier League is the only content of real value.
The Minister has given MultiChoice until July 21 to submit a proposal reflecting the requested price reduction, paving the way for further talks before the month ends.
He also raised alarm over the growing use of unauthorised DStv boxes from neighboring countries, calling for stricter enforcement to combat piracy and protect local revenue streams.
