President John Dramani Mahama has announced the establishment of a special fund dedicated to supporting the children of the eight individuals who tragically lost their lives in the helicopter crash on August 6.

The initiative, which aims to ensure the long-term welfare of the deceased victims’ dependents, will be formally launched on Friday, August 15, during a state funeral held in their honour.

The President made the announcement during a solemn address at the funeral rites of the late Deputy National Security Coordinator, Alhaji Mohammed Muniru Limuna, one of the victims of the crash. The ceremony took place on Tuesday and was attended by government officials, family members, and mourners from across the country.

In his speech, President Mahama stressed the need to provide continued care for the families left behind, particularly the young children of the deceased. He made special mention of the two-month-old child of pilot Peter Bafemi, highlighting the devastating impact the loss has had on innocent dependents.

“This fund is our way of showing solidarity and ensuring that the children who have been left behind by this national tragedy are not forgotten,” the President said. “It is our responsibility to help protect them from the financial and emotional burdens caused by this heartbreaking event.”

The dedicated support fund is expected to cover education, healthcare, and basic needs for the children affected, offering some stability in the wake of a life-altering tragedy.
