The campaign team of Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, one of the five aspirants in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming flagbearer contest, has welcomed his number one position on the ballot paper, describing it as a symbol of divine favor and victory.
Speaking to the media after the balloting exercise held at the NPP headquarters in Asylum Down, Accra, on Friday, October 10, spokesperson for the Agyapong campaign, Kwasi Kwarteng, commended the Electoral Committee for a fair and transparent process.
“It was a simple, open process involving just five aspirants. Their representatives picked the numbers themselves, and we’re pleased with the outcome,” Mr. Kwarteng said.
He added that securing the top spot on the ballot offers a significant marketing advantage and boosts the campaign’s visibility.
“Number one on the ballot gives us great leverage in terms of visibility and recall value. But beyond that, our message remains consistent — change, renewal, and job creation. Kennedy Agyapong is coming with three things: jobs, jobs, and more jobs,” he emphasized.
Mr. Kwarteng clarified that while the team considers the number symbolic, their confidence is rooted in their message and grassroots connection rather than mere ballot position.
“We’re not overly fixated on any number, but it’s fair to say that number one adds an edge in communication and publicity. That’s something we gladly acknowledge,” he noted.
Responding to questions about whether the position guarantees victory, given that Mr. Agyapong also drew the first slot in the 2024 primaries but lost, Mr. Kwarteng maintained that the current race is different.
“These are entirely different circumstances with new dynamics. We believe this time, number one is not just luck — it’s divine alignment. But ultimately, the will of the delegates will prevail,” he said.
He further indicated that the campaign team’s focus is now on engaging delegates with a clear, practical, and hopeful message.
“Our goal is to reach every delegate and share Kennedy’s vision for the party’s renewal. Like the Bible says, the heart of the king is in the hand of the Lord, and we trust God to direct this process in our favour,” he added.
The NPP’s presidential primary is set for January 31, 2026, with Kennedy Agyapong drawing the first position, followed by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia in second place, Dr. Bryan Acheampong third, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum fourth, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong fifth on the ballot.
